Colombo, October 28, 2024 – A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed yesterday between Travel Voice, Sri Lanka’s renowned travel media organization, and the Sustainable Tourism Unit (STU) of the University of Colombo. The event took place at the Faculty of Graduate Studies at the University, marking a significant step forward in promoting sustainable tourism practices across Sri Lanka.
The signatories were prominent representatives, Mr. Nihal Muhandiram the President of Alumni Association of Tourism and Hospitality Management (ATEHM), and Ms. Damsi Dharmaratne, General Secretary of the University of Colombo. Prof. D.A.C. Suranga Silva, the Coordinator of the Tourism Study Program within the STU, affirmed the commitment to advance tourism and sustainability by signing the agreement. Travel Voice was represented by its CEO, Mr. Chamikara Sapuge, and Director, Mr. Sahasra Sandeepa.
This MOU, with Travel Voice as the digital media partner, expects to foster knowledge sharing and collaboration between academia and the travel industry through joint initiatives, research, and projects aiming to promote eco-friendly tourism practices. The partnership also strives to extend socio-economic benefits to reach local communities.
The collaboration sets a new standard for partnerships between industry and academia, combining the expertise of the Sustainable Tourism Unit with Travel Voice’s media network to ensure that sustainable tourism practices are both promoted and implemented across Sri Lanka.
