Times of India selects Lanka as second ‘Most Popular Travel Destination in Asia’

The Times of India has selected Sri Lanka as the second ‘Most popular travel destination in Asia’ for 2024 after Bali Indonesia.

“These destinations are noted for their unique cultural experiences, natural beauty and diverse attractions making them top choices for travellers seeking memorable journeys in Asia,” the Times of India said.

Commenting on Sri Lanka it said: “The island nation is known for its rich cultural heritage, stunning beaches, lush tea plantation and diverse wildlife.” The other eight most popular destinations are; Thailand, Kashmir, India, Tokyo, Japan, Halong Bay Vietnam, Kathmandu Nepal, Andaman Islands, Hanoi Vietnam and Koyoto Japan.

In just five months Sri Lanka has attracted 864,082 tourists which is more than half of the total number of arrivals achieved last year which was 1,487,303. Tourist arrivals from May 1 to 21, 2024 stood at 79,431 with India having 26% of the total number. Out of this India remains as the top source market for Sri Lanka accounting to 143,848.
