Sri Lanka’s tourism industry marked a positive turn in October 2024, with earnings from the sector reaching approximately USD 185.6 million. This figure reflects a rise in comparison to both the previous month and the same period in 2023, showcasing a steady recovery in tourism.
The month of October welcomed 135,907 visitors, an increase from the 109,199 arrivals in October 2023 and 122,140 in September 2024. These numbers have bolstered cumulative arrivals for the year to date, bringing the total to 1,620,715.
With the current momentum, Sri Lanka remains on track to meet its 2024 target of 2.3 million arrivals, which could result in tourism earnings between USD 3.0 billion and USD 3.5 billion. The steady increase highlights the growing appeal of Sri Lanka as a travel destination, reinforcing the tourism sector’s role in the nation’s economic recovery.
