- Former Nepal Prime Minister and CPN (Unified Socialist) Chairman Madhav Kumar Nepal has said Buddhist countries should introduce flights to Lumbini International Airport to facilitate pilgrims visiting the Buddhist place of worship, a statement issued by the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka noted.
During his meeting with Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena at the Temple Trees on Wednesday (5), Madhav Kumar said since direct flights already operate from Kathmandu to Colombo Sri Lankan authorities could extend services from Lumbini to Colombo as well to facilitate the large number of tourists and pilgrims that visit the birthplace of the Buddha.
Madhav Kumar, who is the chairman of the ruling coalition in Nepal, in discussions with the Sri Lankan Prime Minister, further highlighted extending bilateral cooperation to new areas such as agriculture and sharing each other’s expertise in various industries as well as hydroelectricity.
The former Nepali Primi Minister was in Sri Lanka to attend a conference organised to mark the 80th anniversary of the establishment of the Sri Lankan Communist Party.
MP Yadamini Gunawardena and Nepal Ambassador Bashu Dev Mishra also took part in the meeting.
