While appreciating Sri Lanka’s economic recovery measures, the Italian government said it will support Sri Lanka’s tourism sector by encouraging more Italian tourists to visit Sri Lanka.

This was revealed during a discussion held yesterday between Italian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Edmundo Sirielli and State Minister of Finance Shehan Semasinghe, who is on an official visit to Italy.

Edmundo Sirielli said that Italy appreciates the steps and measures taken by Sri Lanka to revive and strengthen the Sri Lankan economy.

During the meeting, attention was focused to expediting of bilateral MoUs necessary to implement the “Migrant-Worker Plan” aimed at securing employment opportunities in Italy for the people of Sri Lanka.

Pointing out that the tourism sector primarily contributes to the economic stability of the country, the State Minister requested the Italian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs to provide support in attracting more Italian tourists to Sri Lanka.

Accordingly, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs said that Italy will support the tourism sector too.
