AirAsia added another milestone to its books by increasing flight frequencies to Colombo, Sri Lanka to eleven times weekly as part of its growth strategy in South Asia.

The additional flight frequency was celebrated with a special send-off yesterday, graced by H.E. Air Chief Marshal Sumangala Dias, the High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to Malaysia, as well as Bo Lingam, AirAsia Aviation Group Limited Group CEO and Riad Asmat, AirAsia Malaysia CEO. Excited guests onboard Flight AK45 to Colombo were handed special AirAsia’s merchandise as they embarked on their journey.

Kuala Lumpur-Colombo has long been one of AirAsia’s most sought-after routes since it first started operating in 2009. World renowned for its fresh seafood and artistic scenery, Colombo is a tourist haven for globe-trotters and foodies alike. With the increased daily frequency, guests can now enjoy more flexibility in planning their trips to this must-visit destination and from Colombo to Kuala Lumpur directly.

AirAsia Malaysia CEO, Riad Asmat expressed his excitement about the increased frequency and the resumption of the Colombo route. He said: “We are pleased to resume our in demand flights to Colombo in April last year, and we are thrilled to increase our frequency to twice daily as part of our growth strategy to meet increasing travel demand to South Asia. Colombo is a captivating city that holds immense appeal for both leisure and business travellers and we look forward to connecting more travellers from Kuala Lumpur and Sri Lanka at affordable fares.

“AirAsia is committed to making this connectivity accessible to folks from all walks of life and with double the number of flights, we have no doubt that more travellers will now get to experience the charm and beauty of Colombo with even greater ease and convenience. Our heartiest gratitude goes out to H.E. Air Chief Marshal Sumangala Dias, the High Commissioner of Sri Lanka for gracing the send off event yesterday as well as the government of Sri Lanka for their support in making this route a success.”
