Sri Lanka’s listed Browns hotels and resorts, a subsidiary of the LOLC group, has rebranded its Avani hotel in Bentota to Taala, with an aim to remain culturally inclined as the country shows a gradual recovery in tourism, an official said.

Taala in Sri Lanka’s main language Sinhala is rhythm and the renaming of the hotel was inspired by the experience of nature and its sounds.

“As Sri Lanka reaches 80 per cent of its pre-pandemic tourist arrivals, we were eyeing something different,”  Kapila Jayawardena, Group Managing Director and CEO of Browns Hotel’s parent company said at an event held on Thursday (25).

“Therefore, we wanted to take the hotel experience to the next level by rebranding our hotel to Taala.”

According to the Sri Lankan Tourism Development Authority, the tourism sector is gradually recovering in 2023, and has welcomed over 500,000 tourists so far this year.

“Our focus is on our tourists, both local and international,” Eksath Wijerathna, Group General Manager of Browns Hotels and Resort said.

“Forty percent of our tourists are repeat visitors. So selling them an experience that they would remember is vital for the success of tourism.” (Economy Next)
