COLOMBO (News 1st) – Sri Lanka’s tourism sector witnessed remarkable growth in 2024, with earnings soaring to an estimated USD 3,169 million. This represents a significant 53.2% increase compared to the USD 2,068 million recorded in 2023.

The positive trend was further reinforced in December 2024, when tourism earnings reached approximately USD 362 million. The surge in revenue highlights the country’s ongoing recovery and growing appeal as a global travel destination.

Industry experts attribute this success to improved marketing efforts, enhanced infrastructure, and an increase in international tourist arrivals. The government’s strategic initiatives to boost tourism, including promotional campaigns and policy support, have also played a crucial role in this impressive performance.

With tourism continuing to be a key driver of economic growth, stakeholders remain optimistic about sustaining this upward momentum in the coming years.
