In a strong start to the new year, Sri Lanka recorded an impressive total of 70,944 tourist arrivals from January 1 to January 9, 2025, according to the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority’s latest report. This marks a significant milestone in the country’s tourism recovery efforts.

India led as the top source market, contributing 16.6% (11,749 tourists) of the total arrivals. Following closely were the Russian Federation with 11,629 tourists (16.4%) and the United Kingdom with 5,520 tourists (7.8%). Other major contributors included Germany, Australia, and France.

The daily arrivals showed consistent performance, with January 2 marking the highest single-day count of 9,392 visitors. Key attractions, cultural festivals, and Sri Lanka’s renowned hospitality continue to draw visitors from across the globe.

This promising start highlights the island’s growing appeal and the effectiveness of tourism campaigns aimed at positioning Sri Lanka as a must-visit destination.
