The Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB), in partnership with the Sri Lankan Embassy in Seoul, South Korea, has taken a significant step in promoting Sri Lanka as a prime travel destination by welcoming the renowned JTBC Media Group. JTBC, one of South Korea’s leading media conglomerates, has embarked on a mission to showcase the beauty, culture, and attractions of Sri Lanka through their popular reality program “Extreme Tour.” The program, which features a famous Korean celebrity exploring a new destination, will soon highlight the splendor of Sri Lanka in an episode slated for release in September 2024.

The JTBC team, consisting of eight members, arrived in Sri Lanka on August 12, 2024, and was warmly received at Bandaranaike International Airport by SLTPB officials, including Ms. Thanuja Muniweera, Deputy Director of Marketing for South Korea. The welcoming committee presented the team with souvenirs as tokens of appreciation for their visit, marking the beginning of a productive collaboration aimed at promoting Sri Lanka’s tourism industry.

During their stay from August 12 to August 17, 2024, the JTBC crew visited some of the most iconic locations in Sri Lanka, including Pidurangalla, Dambulla, the Temple of the Tooth in Kandy, Haputale, and Madu Ganga. These picturesque sites provided the perfect backdrop for capturing stunning visuals that will be featured in the upcoming episode of “Extreme Tour.” The SLTPB played a crucial role in facilitating the necessary arrangements and obtaining approvals for filming at these locations, ensuring a smooth production process.

JTBC, established in 1963, has grown into a global media powerhouse, known for producing a wide range of popular programs such as “Newsroom,” “Morning and Crime Chief,” “Agency,” “Shin Divorce Lawyer,” “Dr. Cha,” “King the Land,” and “Behind Your Touch.” With a diverse lineup of shows spanning sports, business, tourism, culture, news, and entertainment, JTBC has cultivated a vast and loyal audience both in South Korea and internationally.

This collaboration between JTBC and SLTPB is expected to significantly enhance Sri Lanka’s visibility as a travel destination, particularly among Korean tourists. By showcasing the island’s natural beauty and rich cultural heritage on a prominent platform like JTBC, Sri Lanka hopes to attract a surge of visitors eager to experience its unique offerings.

The SLTPB and the Sri Lankan Embassy in Seoul are optimistic that this initiative will not only boost tourism but also strengthen the cultural and economic ties between Sri Lanka and South Korea. As the episode airs in September 2024, it is anticipated that the captivating portrayal of Sri Lanka will inspire many more travelers to explore the island’s wonders.
