Air India Launches First 787 Boeing Dreamliner Flight from Sri Lanka to India

Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA), July 1, 2024 – In a historic event, Air India, the national carrier of India, marked a significant milestone today by operating its Boeing 787 Dreamliner from Sri Lanka to India. This inaugural flight makes Air India the first airline to operate the Boeing 787 Dreamliner between the two countries.

The Dreamliner landed at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) to a grand ceremonial water salute, a traditional aviation welcome for significant flights. This occasion marks a new chapter in the aviation ties between India and Sri Lanka, enhancing connectivity and passenger experience on this crucial route.

Currently, Air India operates 10 flights per week on the Colombo-Chennai route and 7 flights per week on the Colombo-Delhi route.
