SkyUp Airlines, a leading Ukrainian carrier, officially commenced its 2024-25 charter flight season to Sri Lanka with its inaugural flight landing at Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport (MRIA) this evening.
The Boeing 737, carrying 170 passengers, touched down at 4:35 p.m., marking a significant milestone in enhancing tourism and fostering stronger ties between Ukraine and Sri Lanka. Operated in collaboration with Delux Holidays, the local partner for the Ukrainian tour operator JoinUp, these charter flights aim to attract travelers from Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, Moldova, and Poland to Sri Lanka.
The inaugural flight was greeted with a celebratory welcome ceremony attended by representatives from SkyUp Airlines, JoinUp, Delux Holidays, and Sri Lankan officials. Traditional cultural performances and a warm hospitality reception showcased the country’s rich heritage to the arriving passengers.
Flights will operate every ten days, bringing tourists to explore Sri Lanka’s renowned beaches, wildlife, and cultural landmarks, contributing to the island’s tourism revival.
“This partnership signifies a major step toward positioning Sri Lanka as a prime travel destination for Eastern European markets. We are committed to providing memorable experiences and supporting Sri Lanka’s tourism growth,” said a representative from Delux Holidays.
With tourism being a vital sector of Sri Lanka’s economy, the addition of SkyUp Airlines is expected to boost visitor arrivals and promote the country as a must-visit destination in South Asia.
