The Ancient Kandyan World Heritage Royal Palace, a historic treasure located within the Sri Dalada Maligawa Complex, was officially upgraded, preserved, and opened to the public today (December 11).
The grand ceremony was attended by distinguished guests, including Hon. Ms. Julie Jiyoon Chung, Ambassador of the United States of America; Hon. Minister of Religious and Cultural Affairs of Buddha Sasana, Professor Hiniduma Sunil Senavi; and Hon. Diyawadana Nilame Pradeep Nilanga Dela, the Chief Custodian of the Sri Dalada Maligawa.
The restoration project was made possible through financial support from the United States Embassy Fund, allocated in 2021, and executed in collaboration with the Department of Archaeology of Sri Lanka and the United States of America.
This initiative is a testament to the United States’ ongoing commitment to preserving Sri Lanka’s diverse cultural heritage. The meticulous efforts ensured that the ancient palace, an architectural marvel from the Kandyan Kingdom, was preserved for future generations while maintaining its historical authenticity.
