IndiGo Airlines has announced the commencement of direct flights between Tiruchirappalli, India, and Jaffna, Sri Lanka, starting March 30, 2025. The new route is expected to enhance connectivity between South India and Sri Lanka’s Northern Province, benefiting both business and leisure travelers.

According to IndiGo, flights will operate daily, providing a convenient travel option for passengers between the two regions. The flight schedule is as follows:

  • Departure from Tiruchirappalli (TRZ): 1:25 PM
  • Arrival in Jaffna (JAF): 2:25 PM
  • Return departure from Jaffna: 3:10 PM
  • Arrival back in Tiruchirappalli: 4:05 PM

Vinay Malhotra, Head of Global Sales at IndiGo, stated, “We are excited to introduce this direct route, which will strengthen regional connectivity and provide seamless travel for our customers. This service aligns with our commitment to expanding our presence in Sri Lanka and supporting economic and cultural exchanges.”

The introduction of this route is expected to boost tourism and trade between the two regions. Tiruchirappalli, known for its rich cultural heritage and historic landmarks such as the Rockfort Temple and Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple, attracts numerous visitors. Meanwhile, Jaffna, a key city in Sri Lanka’s Northern Province, is home to prominent sites like Jaffna Fort and Nallur Kandaswamy Kovil, making it a significant destination for travelers.

IndiGo currently operates flights from Chennai to Jaffna, and the addition of the Tiruchirappalli-Jaffna route further expands its network in the region. Passengers can book tickets through IndiGo’s official website or mobile application.

The airline’s expansion into Jaffna underscores the growing demand for direct air travel between India and Sri Lanka, offering enhanced accessibility and promoting stronger ties between the neighboring nations.
