In a bid to develop the regulations of adventure tourism that will enhance services and facilitate the tourism industry, Sri Lanka is set to introduce ‘new regulations’ for adventure tourism.
A meeting towards this was held recently at the Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka (CAASL) chaired by Air Vice Marshal Sagara Kotakadeniya (Retd.), Director General of Civil Aviation & Chief Executive Officer. Representatives from the Civil Aviation Authority, Sri Lanka Tourism Bureau with stakeholders were also engaged in these constructive discussions to address various aspects related to adventure tourism.
It was decided to have a project being implemented by the Civil Aviation Authority in collaboration with Sri Lanka Tourism Bureau with the guidelines of the Ministry of Transport, Highways, Ports & Aviation and Ministry of Tourism. The primary focus was on establishing a comprehensive framework that ensures the seamless operations of adventure tourism. The program will promulgate regulations related to all adventure tourism activities and limitations to the industry such as carrying capacity limitations, safety requirements, minimum requirement for registration as an adventure tourism operator, etc. (SS)
