Katunayake Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) will soon have 20 more check-in counters. The decision was made during a special meeting led by Civil Aviation Minister Bimal Rathnayake.

The Ministry of Civil Aviation stated that officials inspected the airport to find spots for the counters. Minister Rathnayake urged authorities to expand facilities to meet the rising number of tourists.

The government aims to serve 12 million air passengers annually by 2028. To support this goal, officials plan to collaborate with teams from other international airports.

Boosting tourism is a key focus for the government. The sector brings significant income to the country, and these changes will enhance Sri Lanka’s appeal as a travel destination.
