Senior Vice President of JICA Meets AASL Chairman to Discuss Phase II Airport Development

A high-level delegation led by Mr. Shohei Hara, Senior Vice President of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), recently met with Air Chief Marshal (Rtd) Harsha Abeywickrema, Chairman of Airport and Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) (AASL), to discuss the ongoing development of the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) Terminal 2 Project.

The discussions focused on critical aspects of the project, aiming to ensure its successful completion. Both parties emphasized the importance of enhancing project management effectiveness and improving the quality of consultancy services. These efforts are designed to expedite the project’s progress while maintaining the highest standards of quality, ultimately benefiting the long-term growth of Sri Lanka’s aviation industry.

During the meeting, Mr. Shohei Hara also conducted a site visit to inspect the BIA Terminal 2 construction area. He reiterated JICA’s commitment to supporting Sri Lanka’s infrastructure development and stressed the need for collaboration to achieve efficiency, sustainability, and excellence in the execution of the project.

Air Chief Marshal (Rtd) Harsha Abeywickrema expressed his gratitude to JICA for its continued support and reaffirmed AASL’s dedication to meeting the expectations of all stakeholders involved in the project.

The BIA Terminal 2 Project is a critical national initiative aimed at enhancing Sri Lanka’s connectivity and strengthening its position as a regional aviation hub, marking a significant step in the country’s infrastructure development.
