Sri Lanka’s tourism industry celebrated a triumphant conclusion to 2024, recording 248,592 tourist arrivals in December, an impressive 18.18% increase compared to December 2023. This strong performance highlights the success of ongoing tourism initiatives and positions Sri Lanka as a top global destination.
December’s daily average surged to 8,019 visitors, significantly up from November’s 6,139. The strategic efforts to enhance connectivity and promote Sri Lanka’s unique attractions contributed significantly to this milestone.
India retained its position as the leading source market, contributing 21.3% of December’s arrivals, followed by the Russian Federation (14.2%) and the United Kingdom (7.5%). Other key markets included Germany, Australia, and China, illustrating the diverse international interest in Sri Lanka’s cultural and natural allure.
These achievements underscore the resilience and dynamism of Sri Lanka’s tourism sector as it continues to thrive on the global stage.
